What is your top tip for effective interviews?

Be prepared! Do your research on the role, the department, the interviewers. Also, spend time reviewing interview questions that are typically asked. When you’re prepared, it will show in your confidence level.

It might sound trite… but a smile goes a really long way.  You already have the skills and the capacity – that’s what got you in the door for the interview.  But now you need to be personable and approachable – you want them to want you because of your skills, but you also want them to want you as a person.

Be honest and straightforward.  Avoid exaggeration, evasiveness, defensiveness or self-deprecation.  Just focus on sharing who you are, what you know and how you work. Do your best to answer the questions as well as you can.  If you don’t know something, admit it.  If you are not sure of your answer, say so.  Be truthful, don’t prevaricate.
