Disability Specialist-Learning Strategist/Assistive Technologist/Advisor, UTM
Job Bio:
  • Coach students with various disabilities in psychosocial areas ranging from disability awareness, socialization and mental health
  • Develop and facilitate one-one, customized learning strategies curriculum for students based on recommendations outlined in psychoeducational and neuropsychological assessments
  • Design Online, blended and in-person Learning Strategies programming
  • Design, develop and implement summer transition programs for first-year, students with disabilities
  • Manage a caseload of 200-250 students with learning disabilities, attention difficulties, acquired brain injuries and other comorbidities in accordance with Ontario Human Rights Code and confidentiality requirements
  • Recommend appropriate and reasonable accommodations by applying the Ontario Human Rights Commission’s, “Guidelines on Accommodating Persons with a Disability”
  • Provide feedback to Senior Student Services team, academic faculty and staff regarding internal processes from an Accessibility in instruction viewpoint to shape new policies and processes for the Centre
  • Liaise with faculty and staff on in-class accommodations
  • Review assistive technology resources and provided guidance on assistive technology
  • Screen students for learning disabilities, mental health and ADHD and collaborate with interdisciplinary colleagues
